Working dogs show their style at Upper Horton

May 31, 2011

Upper Horton Sports Club will be conducting their annual Dog Trial on June 11, 12, and 13. This will be the 25th Yard Dog Trial (silver anniversary) which started off as a small one day event to its present three days.

Early enquiries are strong with competitors from Queensland to Victoria and most areas of New South Wales wishing to compete.

The major event is the Horton Valley Yard Dog Championship, which carries with it the Paul Hodges Memorial Trophy. There will also be Encouragement, Maiden and Novice events.

Held in conjunction will be an Arena Trial. This trial has grown in popularity each year and in 2010 the Encouragement Trial started on Friday and the Open finished at dark on the Monday. The trial is getting a lot of encouragement workers in both yard and arena, which looks good for the future of the sport.

The dog high jump is very popular and will again be held this year at lunchtime on the Sunday. If you have a dog that can jump come along and join in the fun.

Depending on the availability of sales dogs an auction will be held on Sunday at lunchtime as well. With a demonstration beforehand anyone that has a dog for sale or wishes to buy a started dog please contact Barry Madden.

There are good facilities on the sports ground with meals and refreshments provided on the day and at the Sporting Club at night. Some of the best dogs and their handlers in Australia will be competing and are great to watch. Thanks to all of the local sponsors for your continued support. Please direct all enquiries to Barry Madden (organizer). Phone/Fax: 6782 7296.
