On Friday April 20, the Roxy Theatre was ‘pumping’ with a group of 55 young people from across the Shire, aged between 12 and 18 years. The event was held to celebrate the 2012 Youth week, Tune it Up! A free bus travelled to and from Warialda bringing a group of eager teenagers down for the night.
The event kicked off at 6.30pm with a free sausage sizzle and the opportunity to show off some dance moves before participating in several contests. There definitely are some extremely talented young people within our Shire. Throughout the night there were prizes and great giveaways handed out to those “busting a move” on the dance floor. With all of the latest music on the jukebox and some pretty cool dance moves, the atmosphere was buzzing.
The night would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the fantastic group of volunteers who gave their time and effort to help make the event run smoothly and keep our young people safe. A big thank you goes to; Rick and Susan Hutton, Robyn, Steve and Megan Apthorpe, Charlotte and Joe Gibson, Tania Brennan, Melissa Frewen, Suzanne Webber and Kimberly Apthorpe who gave up their time to run the event.
A big thank you also goes to Bilsborough’s bus service and driver Chompsy Redman for running the bus to and from Warialda on the night.
Overall the event was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The night was given great reviews on Facebook by all of the participants who are very keen for another event to be held like Tune it Up!
Events like this, funded by National Youth Week, are extremely important in helping to bring young people together within the Shire to have a great time in a safe environment.
