You’ve got to ask the question!

“If you never ever try, you’ll never ever know!” This is the philosophy of Bingara’s Susanne Hughes.

Susanne is a key member of the Friends of Touriandi committee. She had an idea to approach Legacy in Inverell to ask for their support for Touriandi.

“There are a number of Legacy widows resident at Touriandi, so it seemed to be a reasonable request!” she said.

Legacy Inverell President, Jim Belford and his members agreed and were delighted to be asked. They have donated five and a half thousand dollars. The money has supported the purchase of medical equipment, specifically an “oxygen concentrator” and an “air alternating mattress”.

The Touriandi interim Manager, David Madigan, explained to a gathering of supporters at Touriandi Lodge on Monday, February 22, “The oxygen concentrator will bring relief and mobility to those guests requiring breathing support, and the air mattress will significantly reduce the occurrence of bed sores.”

David added, “with bed sores alone a potential $20,000 in costs is likely to treat a resident suffering through the term of their stay. This mattress will eliminate the cause and bring relief to the person and savings to the Lodge.”

Friends of Touriandi President, Brenda Pankhurst and David Young, representing the Touriandi Board, thanked Legacy Inverell for their generosity.

“We are very proud of our facility here,” David said. “Your contribution has added to our offer of care.” Jim Belford, in reply, said, “Legacy is like a family. Wherever and whenever we can help, we will!”
