Gwydir Shire Council

Gwydir Shire Council was formed by the amalgamation of Bingara and Yallaroi Shire Councils on March 17, 2004, incorporating the towns of Bingara and Warialda and the villages of Coolatai, Cobbadah, Croppa Creek, Gravesend, North Star, Upper Horton and Warialda Rail.

The Shire covers an area of 9,121.70 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 5,790 people.

The Council’s Vision is: “To be the recognised leader in Local Government through continuous learning and sustainability”.

Council Facilities

Both Warialda and Bingara have a Hospital, Aged Care Hostel, Medical Centre, Caravan Park, Swimming Pool, Fitness Centre, Library, Toy Library, Visitor Information Centre, Pre-school and there is a mobile Pre-school based at North Star.

Bingara is primarily  the centre for the Administrative functions, whereas Warialda is the centre for the Council’s Technical Services function.
