A fresh start for VISION 20/20.

January 24, 2011

February 3, 2011 will be a very special day for Bingara and its future. That evening Bingara and District VISION 20/20 will hold its Annual General Meeting at 6:00pm and follow it with a Special Dinner and Presentation at 7:00pm.

The venue will be the Bingara RSL Club and an invitation is extended to all community members interested in the future of Bingara town and district.

“VISION 20/20 was formed in 2005 following the amalgamation of Bingara and Yallaroi Shires to form the new Gwydir Shire Council.” said the outgoing President, Frances Young. “Since then we have endeavoured to represent the aspirations of our broad community and focus on projects that would express the uniqueness of our town and district and help to stimulate its dynamic future.”

“We began with a survey of our citizens asking them what they valued most in our community, what they perceived as the likely community of year 2020, and what they would like to see happen in the future.” Frances said. “We had nearly 300 responses and we used those ideas to develop the IMAGINE Tourist Brochure, the Bingara Website and the ‘Vision Document’.”

“With all of these we received positive and generous support from the Gwydir Shire Council,” she added. “We then hosted a series of Forums which considered issues of Future Energy, Tourism and Country Town Living.

We focused our attention on some very dynamic projects such as the Bingara Riverscape and the Bingara Farm Gardens, the latter nearing the start of its first stage as ‘The Living Classroom’”.

The Special Dinner Presentation will focus on the progress and prospects for “The Living Classroom” with an explanation of the project and the steps to be pursued to be given by the Chairman of the co-ordinating committee, Garry McDouall.

“I invite all citizens, business people and interested parties to attend the meeting on February 3.” Frances Young said. “By understanding more about the workings of VISION 20/20 and specifically “The Living Classroom” Project, you can help to progress our town and district.”

“The Dinner is generously sponsored by New England Mutual and RSVP for catering purposes should be forwarded by phone or text, to the Secretary, Rick Hutton on 0428 255380.” Frances concluded.
