A massive family commitment

The Community Event of the year for 2015,’Barney’s Day, is one which is well supported by Bingara and the wider community. In 2015 over 200 participants locally and from the wider community took part in Barney’s Day, named in honour of Andrew ‘Barney’ Galvin, who lost his life to cancer 20 years ago, at the age of just 26.

Ivan and Neil Galvin were proud to receive the Event of the Year for the Annual ‘Barney’s Day’ a fund-raising day of Golf and Bowls in memory of Ivan’s son, Neil’s brother, Andrew ‘Barney’ Galvin.

The fantastic community spirit of this event generates thousands of dollars each year for medical research, specifically for research into children’s cancer.

Organised by Ivan Galvin and his family, advertising, catering, hospitality, entertainment, sponsorship, fund raising auction and hosting of the event is undertaken quietly but efficiently.

Ivan and his family have been very supportive of the Bingara Sporting Club which has been the location and host of this event for almost 20 years.

Ivan has served for over 30 years as a board member of the Club.  The Galvin family has spent numerous volunteering hours behind the bar and assisting in club management, maintaining the Club and on the sporting facilities.

As well there is beautifully maintained tribute garden adjacent to the 6th Tee on the golf course – a memorial to Andrew “Barney” Galvin.
