An Invitation to celebrate progress, and to look to the future!

November 29, 2012

Bingara and District Vision 2020 invites everyone who is interested in the future prosperity of Bingara to an end of year celebration. On Thursday evening December 6 we will be hosting a barbecue at the Junction Park, at the northern end of Maitland Street from 6:00pm.

Children are welcome, and drinks will be provided. In the event of rain, we will move across the road to The River House.

Bingara Lion’s Club will be catering. If you would like to join us please let us know by December 5 by phoning President Rick Hutton on 0428 255380 or emailing faysons@northnet.com.au

For the past eight years Vision2020 has worked to promote, support, plan and facilitate projects for the welfare and future prosperity of our town and district. The achievements of our community over that period have been extraordinary, and it is fair to say that we are regarded with envy by many other rural communities. Our profile remains high, and this is reflected in high visitor numbers, a busy main street, an improvement in essential services, and a wonderful community atmosphere.

However, It is time to re-think the process of community engagement. Is the current format of Vision 2020 still appropriate, or is there a better way?

What needs to change to excite and involve more people, and a broader cross-section of the community?

The outgoing committee would appreciate your input. So, instead of holding our Annual General Meeting in December, we will reschedule it for January and use the December 6 date to celebrate, consult and prepare for 2013.

Some possibilities to consider are:

  • Identify within our community our skills base, and areas of interest. Invite people to undertake specific projects aligned with their skills and interests, and invite them to put together a team. This team would meet as required, and disband once the project is completed.
  • Elect an executive team that would meet regularly to carry out general business, respond to opportunities and report to the members and community, and call General meetings less regularly
  • Hold special themed dinner meetings every three months. (Community Mutual has been a generous supporter of five of these in the past, and has expressed enthusiasm to continue).

A prime responsibility for any organisation is to plan for succession and for changing times. We hope that you will join us on December 6 to celebrate our community’s achievements to date, and help steer us towards a dynamic and prosperous future.

Kind Regards

Rick Hutton – President 2012
