Author to speak at Myall Creek

May 20, 2014

The speaker at the annual memorial Myall Creek Massacre commemoration ceremony this year is Dr Timothy David Reis Bottoms. Tim is a professional Historian, researcher, story-teller and humanist who has had the courage and passion to address our Australian history – warts and all.

Dr Bottoms is an intrepid author and narrator who has a cosmopolitan approach and yet artfully allows the many historical voices and faces to speak for themselves. His many works include the recently published ‘Conspiracy of Silence’, documenting the massacre history in Queensland.

This public commemoration is held at Myall Creek, near the site of the massacre, commencing at 9.30 a.m. This year the meeting will again be held on the Sunday, not Saturday, of the June long weekend.

The Myall Creek Memorial was erected in June 2000 by a group of Aboriginal and non-aboriginal people working together in an act of reconciliation.

A short annual general meeting at 9.45 will focus on concept plans for the new educational/cultural centre before the ceremony at the memorial at 10.30am.
