Bingara Relay for Life registrations now open: Register for the ‘time of your life’

September 25, 2008

Have you registered for the Relay for Life?

Preparations for the Bingara Relay for Life are in full swing for the November 8 & 9 event. Relay for Life is a major community fundraiser for the Cancer Council with funds going towards research to cure the disease that touches so many our lives. Teams of 10-15 people take turns walking, running or skipping around an oval for 24 hours.

Organisers are urging people to register their teams – the aim is to recruit 30 teams. The event is always accompanied by healthy food, entertainment and loads of good company. The event will also be open to the general public.

A favourite activity of Relay is "Miss Relay" where the male participants are encouraged to dress up as a woman and asks people to help them buy their way to victory, with all proceeds going to the Cancer Council.

There will be a Candlelight Ceremony of Hope where attendees remember those who have lost their battle with cancer and give hope to those that are fighting the disease. Registration forms are available from the Gwydir Shire Council Bingara office or for more information please contact Shaen Fraser at The Cancer Council on 6766 11664 or visit www.relayforlife.com.au

Cancer Survivors and Carers will be honoured during Relay for Life.

The first lap of the grounds will be the "Survivors Walk".

Participants will be given a sash to take part in lap one before everyone joins them on the track for lap two.

Survivors and Carers will then be invited to attend a morning tea held in their honour before rejoining the rest of the event, anyone in the community, whether they are on a team or not, can take part in the "Survivors Walk".

Any community members who wish to participate in the walk are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
