Care for Kids weekend a great success

April 28, 2012

The inaugural Bingara Care for Kids Junior Draft and Sporting event was held over the weekend at the Bingara showground.

There were 124 Campdraft entries each day with Hiscocks Saddlery donating the winners of each draft with a trophy.

Most children also competed in the five sporting events including the flag race, barrel race, bends, stockrider event and the pony twist.

The feature under 21 years Flag race was held Saturday afternoon after the days events had finished with Lauren Thurgood coming out as the fastest rider.  Lauren was competing in the 15 under 17 years events and had travelled up from Wingen to participate in the weekend.

Other families had travelled from Bulahdelah, Maitland, Gresford, Glouster and as far as Tenterfeild, Glen Innes, and surrounding areas giving the local kids plenty of competition.

The winner of the local riders in the Campdraft over the two days was Colless Coombes with a aggregate score of 169 on Reiny followed by Jo McGowan on 157 on Dove and Dylan McKinnon with a score of 103 on Signet.

The main meal on Saturday night prepared by Marilyn and Bez Dixon was very successful and attracted over 130 people to the showground for the meal.

Unfortunately the live entertainment which was previously advertised was unable to make the event so the committee opted for a juke box from McNeils Hire to keep the crowd entertained.

Organizer of the event, Sonia Coombes was very pleased with how the weekend ran.
“The weekend was a great success, everyone said it was a great family weekend and they will definitely be back again next year,” said Sonia.

“Around 130 meals were served on Saturday night with our local “Rats” Rugby team been the waiters for the night.  “It was good to see them support this worthy course, thank you. Good luck with your first game we hope your dish pan hands work well for you,” she said.
