Exciting weekend of polocrosse at Moree

June 24, 2009

The Bingara Polocrosse Club had an exciting weekend of polocrosse when they competed at the Moree Carnival winning the B Grade competition. The team consisted of Glenn Hull, Louise Dailey, Phill Frewen, Geoff Turton, Tracey Frewen and Brandon Frewen.

The weekend started out gloomy with the threat of rain on Friday night however by Saturday things cleared up for a great weekend of polocrosse. Bingara’s first game was up against the Pallamallawa 1 side. The defence was strong however Bingara were stronger taking the game 15 points to 10.

Bingara then took to the field to play against the Galloping Gully 3 side for what proved to be a nail biter of a match. The Bingara Club displayed some excellent team work and ball skills as their competition proved to be difficult. The scores remained even throughout the game forcing extra time to be played. Glenn, Louise and Phil returned to the field with great determination managing to snatch the ball from the line up and put it through the goal posts to take the win 13 points to 12.

Sunday morning saw Bingara come up against Narrabri 1. The Bingara Club again showed some skilful attacking and defence with Phill Frewen proving that he works great as both a number one and a number three player. Whilst Narrabri put in a fair fight Bingara were able to take a comfortable win at 16 points to 10.

Bingara then entered the grand final against Guyra 2 for another edge of your seat game. The scores remained close throughout and some first rate attacking and defence were displayed by both teams. However Bingara proved to be the better team on the day taking the win and the game at 12 points to 10.

The Bingara Club were also represented in the Sub Junior section by Cameron Hull (right, front), Sam Turton and Marty Turton.

The boys played some brilliant polocrosse over the weekend coming runners up by winning three out of their four matches. Congratulations go to the boys as they played some outstanding games of polocrosse.

The Bingara Polocrosse Club would also like to announce that their annual carnival has been scheduled in for 18 and 19 July 2009. With the previous carnival being cancelled due to unforseen circumstances, plans have been underway to ensure this carnival is bigger and better. The club would like to invite all locals to come out and support their teams and watch some great displays of polocrosse. Bar and Canteen facilities will be available all weekend along with a dinner and dance on Saturday night.
