She excelled in her role as School Captain and now Ally Dixon can add Young Citizen of the Year to her already impressive resume. Educated from kindergarten through to Year 12 at Bingara Central School, Ally is a shining example of a small community upbringing.

Ally Dixon“I was quite shocked at first,” the 19 year old said of receiving the prestigious award. It is an honour and something to be proud of.”

Ally has wasted no time after finishing school last year, recently beginning work at the Gwydir Shire Council where she will undertake a two-year traineeship in finance and administration.

Ally will also be kept busy with a 12-month Certificate in Fitness through TAFE. That combination is sure to suit the young all-rounder, who enjoys riding horses, swimming, netball and Oztag.

During her school time, Ally’s leadership skills were regarded as “exemplary.” Some of her responsibilities included being the chairperson of presentation night, organising the Year 12 farewell and speaking on behalf of the school at community meetings.

Ally was actively involved in different sports, often at a representative level. Having played the clarinet for nine years, Ally also “contributed greatly” to all school presentation days and variety nights. Her skill and talent even led to a trip overseas.
