Film Club announces 2015 program

December 12, 2014

The North West Theatre Company has just announced the Film Club program for 2015.
As in previous years, NWTC has developed a diverse selection of films ranging from 1934 to 2014, with a variety to suit any or all tastes – old black and white, comedy, drama and foreign. Three of them were Academy Award winners for Best Picture. What does draw them together is that they are all classics in their own right.

One of the highlights of the year will be the first screening in February. The club has been able to acquire a documentary produced in 2013 telling the real story of Harry “Breaker” Morant, his young life as a master horseman, raconteur and bush poet in the Charters Towers region of Queensland, and his exploits during the Boer War which saw him tried and eventually executed by the British for alleged war crimes.

The injustice of this still resonates today, and this documentary features a close examination of the events and trial, and carries out a counter trial in Melbourne with the very top legal brains in Australia.

The documentary will be preceded by a screening of the original 1982 Bruce Beresford film. Mark your diaries down for Sunday, February 22 at 4pm for this unforgettable afternoon of Australian history.

So how do you join and participate in the Film Club? To be able to afford distribution rights, the club needs to be an affiliated member of a Film Club or Society, and this requires it to operate under an annual membership umbrella.

To make this feasible, annual membership costs only $60 for the whole year – or $5 per film if you were to attend all 12 throughout the year. The club does allow temporary members and visitors to attend, but charge $10 per film, and would much prefer moviegoers to join the club for the year.

The films are screened on the last Sunday of each month, beginning in February, and begin at 4pm.

Each film is introduced, and club members have a wine and snack after the film.

Club membership would make a great Christmas gift for anyone. If you are interested in becoming a member you should contact either Ros. Moulton (67241613) or John Wearne (0418-419684) for further details.

Following is the full program for 2015. It should appeal to everyone.

See you at the movies!
