Bingara Pre-school is one of 19 in the Northern Tablelands electorate to to share in extra funding through a joint State and Federal scheme. Pre-schools in Armidale, Ashford, Bingara, Bundarra, Glen Innes, Inverell, Tingha, Tenterfield, Uralla, Walcha and Warialda, will receive a total of$970,168.
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay welcomed the much needed boost which includes increases in funding from two to 122 per cent for local pre-schools. “This extra funding will open up more places for children to attend pre-school in the year prior to starting school,” he said. “It comes as a result of new national partnership between the state and federal governments on early childhood education and is aimed at reducing preschool fees and increasing access to quality early childhood education.”
The MP said there was now overwhelming evidence that pre-school experience gave children an advantage and helped them settle into primary school more easily. “Quality preschool education provides children with the best possible start in life,” he said. “It gives them an early introduction to numeracy, literacy and all important social skills and needs to be available to as many children as possible.” The Northern Tablelands funding includes:

• $46, 312 for Minimbah Aboriginal Pre-school, Armidale
• $73,353 for St Peter’s Pre-school, Armidale
• $16,870 for Ashford Pre-school Kindergarten
• $16,549 for Bingara Pre-school.

• $5,469 for Glen Innes Glen Innes Pre-school
• $30,576 for Glen Innes Pre-school Outreach Program.
