Funding received to improve Medical Centre

January 11, 2013

Gwydir Shire Council has obtained Federal Government funding of over $190,000 to extend and enhance the Bingara Medical Centre.

This funding will greatly improve the standard of equipment available to medical staff including a specialised slit lamp which will be used to see into a patient’s eye.

The renovations which commenced before christmas include a new surgical/multi purpose treatment room, a triage suite, a larger reception area and patient waiting room.

The extensions hopefully will also encourage more trainee doctors to come to Bingara as they will have better access to training facilities.

Council and staff apologise for any disruptions and inconvenience which may be caused by the renovations but will endeavour to keep these to a minimum.

“This is an exciting project which improves a community asset”, said Mayor Cr John Coulton, ‘We are very fortunate to have gained this external funding and I wish to thank the staff for seizing this opportunity’.
