Gwydir Council receives funding for International Women’s Day events

Gwydir council will celebrate International Women’s Day with a lunch for women with the theme “Women in the World Today”.The shire is one of six local councils to receive funding of $1000 each to fund International Women’s Day events on Monday, March 8.

The informal gathering will showcase what it is to be a woman in a small town. This will also incorporate the local Mother of the Year competition.

The celebrations run from 11 am until 1 pm, at Captain Cook Park, Warialda and will feature inspirational guest speakers followed by a light luncheon. Free child minding will be available.

Free transportation from Bingara  is available departing at 10.15 am from in front of Council Front Office.

The funding has been welcomed by Member for Northern Tablelands, Richard Torbay.

“This is a great line up of events to mark an important day in the calendar and to focus on women’s issues and achievements,” Mr Torbay said. “It is pleasing to see this government support provided.”
