Kiwi Open Paragliders drop in on Bingara

Bingara was again a target in one of the races which made up the Kiwi Open Paragliding championships at Manilla.

The event, held from February 8 to 14, saw 120 pilots taking part.

Last  Saturday week, 32 of the pilots managed to cross the target finish line just south of Boggabilla to set a world record 214km distance set and achieved.

The fastest time in this event was five hours and 20 minutes by Brazilian Donizete Lemos. Many pilots did personal bests on the day as well.

The previous world record for a competition race to goal distance was 201 kms in the USA, but only three pilots crossed the line. This photograph of the pilots landing in Bingara on Wednesday was taken and kindly supplied by Kristy Johnson.
