New owners for Sportsmans Hotel

February 5, 2015

David Barnes and Belinda Eykamp along with Belinda’s son Jim have recently purchased the Sportsman’s Hotel. Although originally long-time residents of Quirindi the couple have felt at home right from the start.

David, a former refrigeration and air conditioning technician and Belinda, a primary school teacher and community Services Manager, are first time publicans and admit they have had to learn new skills very quickly. The transition was made much easier due to the assistance of former owner Lyn Rose and her family who were always available with support and guidance.

David and Belinda have been overwhelmed by the kindness shown to them by the people of Bingara.

“The locals are so warm and friendly and are always ready to help out or offer advice. There are some real larrikins and patrons are always on for a joke.

“The traditional Australian sense of humour is alive and well at the Sportsman’s. Going to work has never been so enjoyable,” said Belinda.

“We have also been very fortunate to be able to keep most of the original staff who have really helped us to settle in and ‘learn the ropes’,” David added.

Sportsmans HotelBelinda and David both love horses and are hoping to become involved in the Show Society and continue campdrafting. Jim is looking forward to joining the North West Theatre Company. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the friendly atmosphere, cold beer and great food.
