New President and committee Vision 2020

October 23, 2009

The Annual General Meeting of Bingara and District Vision 20/20 saw Frances Young accept the position of President. The previous President, Rick Hutton has been elected to the position of Secretary, Publicity Officer and Public Officer. The other office bearers are, Don Capel – Vice President, Philippa Morris – Treasurer, and Committee Members, Jill Herring, Garry McDouall and Erik Ozols.

In his outgoing President’s Report Rick Hutton said of Vision 20/20, ‘We remain active and maintain a positive focus on promoting and advancing Bingara and its District, and the Gwydir Shire.’

He added, ‘During the past year we have been involved in the Bingara Business Awards 08 and 09, the Motorhome and Campervan Rally, the Living Classroom, the upgraded Narrabri Road promotion, the Two Discover Gwydir Forums, the Orange Festival display and Cunningham’s Trail, The Bingara Riverscape Project, When the Moon Got Trod On!, and preparation for the Maitland Street Walk and the ‘Our Place – Country Town Living 2025′ Forum being planned for next February.’

One of new President’s first tasks was to describe the restoration work being conducted at the Hall’s Creek/Gwydir River Junction. This was done at the conclusion of the Maitland Street Walk which was jointly organized by V2020 and Gwydir Shire Council. ‘This work is bank stabilization being carried out by UGLA assisted by V2020 and Gwydir Shire Council as part of the Hall’s Creek Project,’ Frances explained. ‘It is not part of the Riverscape Project that V2020 has proposed, but has the potential to fit nicely in with it once Council decides to proceed.’
