Delungra open air cinema set to thrill the whole family

It promises to be popcorn and fun aplenty at the ‘Cinema Under the Stars’ events to commence next month in villages across Inverell Shire.

The idea for the outdoor cinema series arose when Yetman Hall and Progress Association and Inverell Shire Council joined forces to create a fun, free, carnival-style event for Inverell’s outlying rural communities.

The concept soon gathered momentum, with a grant from Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal transforming the idea into reality.

President of Yetman Hall and Progress Association Kate Dight says next month’s Cinema Under the Stars series is already generating a buzz, with big crowds expected.

“The Delungra event on Saturday 10th September will include a screening of The Jungle Book on the big inflatable movie screen, a rock climbing wall, free popcorn, market stalls, giveaways and a jumping castle,” Kate said.

“These events are free. Anyone coming along will only need to purchase or bring along their food and drink, as all entertainment and children’s activities are free.”

Following the Delungra event, Yetman’s outdoor cinema will take place Saturday 17 September, with a screening of Eddie the Eagle, featuring Hugh Jackman.

The event will coincide with a fundraising dinner for twins Bradley and Teddy Moffitt to assist with their ongoing medical expenses and also make changes at Yetman School to help the boys start school next year.

Council general manager Paul Henry says both events reflect council’s commitment to delivering a diverse calendar of events for shire residents.

“We are pleased to be supporting our outlying communities with this ground-breaking project. It’s not always easy for rural residents to travel to Inverell for a night at the cinema, so it’s wonderful we can take the cinema to them,” Mr Henry said.

The Delungra event commences at 2.30pm at Delungra Recreation Ground, with the movie to commence after sunset at 6.30pm. Community groups and potential stallholders are invited to call Inverell Shire Council for further information.

Residents in Yetman and Delungra areas will receive details in their letterbox shortly, with information also available at Inverell Shire Council’s Facebook page and website www.inverell.nsw.gov.au.
