The NWTC brings “Jack and the Beanstalk” to The Roxy Theatre

September 7, 2008

The North West Theatre Company is aiming to produce a Pantomime – or ‘PANTO’ as our End of Year Show. This traditional Family Show for the Christmas season will be a light hearted musical comedy, loosely based on the well-known fairy tale – “Jack and the Beanstalk”.

The panto Director, Mary Woodroofe said, “Rather than conforming strictly to the original tale, that you may well remember, we will place our emphasis on a musical show, with singing and dancing, and happy nonsense.”

“Everybody – and that includes the audience – will be expected to join in with the singing, the clapping in time to the music, and the repartee with the players.” Mary said.  “Maybe the time and location of our version might be a little unusual. To add to your confusion, you will find that in accordance with time-honoured pantomime tradition, Jack’s Mother (or the DAME) will be played by a man, while Jack himself could be either a boy or a girl!” Mary added.

“Cheer up though!  For, as in any good story, our Roxy stage will bring you scenes that will amuse you, and delight you, with some tender romance, involving both young and old. There will be scenes that will scare you (- a people eating Giant perhaps?) but, best of all, there will be magic!  Well, that is to say, there will be a rather unusual cow and a very strange bag of beans!” Mary concluded.

Auditions for all parts will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, September 20, from 1:30pm at the Roxy Theatre. There will be parts for players of all ages and need for helpers, in construction of sets, props and costumes, and assistants required for technical production and front of house.

“Jack and the Beanstalk” is a family show, at the Roxy from Saturday November 29 to Sunday December 7. Tickets will be available from end September. Please come along and join in with your family, and if you are interested in performing, or being part of our production, and would like to know more, contact the  Director, Mary Woodroofe on 67241257, or Producer, Ros Moulton on 67241613.
