Wings ‘n Things Bird Photography Competition

July 29, 2013

As part of the Wings ‘n Things Bird and Bush Festival being held 4 to 7 October 2013, Gwydir Shire Council will be conducting a Bird Photography Competition which will be judged and placed on display at the Warialda Visitor Information Centre.  The total prize pool is $800, with prize money awarded in both junior and senior categories.

The Gwydir Shire area is the perfect place to spend time outdoors with your camera. Whether you are a beginner with a small compact camera, or a more experienced enthusiast with an SLR camera and lots of lenses, just venture outdoors when you next get the chance – and don’t forget the camera!

Take the time to enjoy the scenic bushland and abundant birdlife throughout the Shire, offering ample opportunities and many photographic possibilities, with the added bonus of a chance to win one of the prize categories in the Bird Photography Competition.

An advocate for the Wings ‘n Things Bird Photography Competition is Ted Priddis.  Ted is a keen birdwatcher and photographer and on a visit to our Shire noted that we had many locations of natural beauty and abundant spectacular birdlife flourishing in the area. As a result Ted decided to settle in Warialda, where he began to passionately document and photograph the local birdlife. Ted also established a local Bird Watching Group, who once a month visit a location within the Shire documenting the names of the exquisite birds.  Ted has spoken at many meetings offering his wealth of knowledge, dedication to bird watching and willingness to share his experiences. Ted advises that Gwydir Shire is renowned amongst birdwatchers as the place ‘where the birds of the east meet the birds of the west’.

The Bird Photography Competition is open to all persons. For details on how to enter read the entry form below or contact the Bingara/Warialda Visitor Information Centres on 02 6724 0066 or 02 6729 0046 respectively.
